Keeping our kids safe from all that lives online is one of the scariest things in modern day parenting and I’m sharing this in the hope that you might just open our eyes a little wider if you know that things on iPhones definitely aren’t always what they seem.
It was a few months ago I was lying on the floor of our playroom with the kids watching the Emoji movie.
Not my first choice but I’m pretty outnumbered.
Anyway, if you don’t know the movie it’s set in a phone where an emoji causes a world of damage in the texting app and escapes onto the main home screen where you see all the other apps……
And this is where I learnt something that was such an eye opener for me.
One of the apps had a ‘skin’ on it.
What’s a skin?
Skin is like a cover that goes over other apps n your screen so they look like they’re something else, like a calculator.
Yep, this is something I’d never heard of before and it was such an eye opener!
Why did it shock me?
Now my kids don’t have phones yet, they’re only small but if I was looking through my kids phone, just a quick check to make sure everything seemed ‘ok’ and they had added one of these to an app I didn’t approve of I’d have no clue unless I opened each app.
Now of course all of this comes down to the relationship you have with kids and I’m sure there are lots to be said about trust but kids can be sneaky. Come on, you know we were.
