It feels like yesterday Lucy was getting her first pony tail and all of a sudden she’s in grade 3. She’s out in the world and I want more than anything to protect her from those little things that feel like BIG things when you're 8 years old but I can feel it getting harder and harder.
But when I was told about this series of books I couldn’t have been more excited.
I’m a huge believer that just by hearing stories like those in ‘Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls’, our kids, not just girls, will be shown that there’s more to life than what’s right in front of them.
The stories in these books are just one page each so they’re not too much to take in for the little ones.
There’s Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls 1 & 2 as well as 'Shout out to the girls' which is the Australian version.
Each page tells the story of woman from all around the world who've done amazing things is all areas of life. From cyclists and weight lifters, to rockstars and scientists and of course Oprah too. The illustrations are amazing!
Don’t forget the boys
There’s a book I’ve recently come across that I’ve fallen in love with called “Stories for Boys Who Dare to be Different: True Tales of Amazing Boys who Changed the World Without Killing Dragons.”
My boys will hear the stories of the strong woman in Rebel Girls as well because it’s just as important to us to bring up boys who believe, and treat, women as equals as it is to bring up girls who know they’re equals.
